Tailor-making of eco-friendly ceramic and nano-ceramic coatings for industrial applications

Dr. Abdel Salam Hamdy Makhlouf is an Associate Professor at the Department of Surface Technology and Corrosion, Central Metallurgical Research & Development Institute (CMRDI), Egypt. He has extensive experience in the surface coatings, nanotechnology, ceramics, nuclear fuel synthesis and corrosion. In 2006, Dr. Makhlouf was awarded the State Prize in Advanced Science and Technology for his research activities in Nanotechnology and designing high performance coatings for automotive and aerospace industries and the Prize of excellence in surface technology and corrosion for his research in materials corrosion and surface engineering.

Dr. Makhlouf was awarded Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship for Experienced Researchers for 18 months at Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, Germany, Fulbright Visiting Scholar Fellowship for 9 months, NSF-Egypt Joint S&T Postdoctoral Fellowship for 6 months, and DOE Postdoctoral Fellowship for 7 months at Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Boise State University, Idaho, USA.

Dr. Makhlouf was the executive director of a US-Egypt project with the University of Florida; Co-PI for a US-Egypt project with Faculty of Engineering, Boise State University, USA. He was the PI of a collaboration program with University of Toulon, France. He has several ongoing research activities with Oxford University, UK and School of Engineering, Universitatea 'Politehnica" din Timisoara, Romania, Farmingdale State University, USA, Academy of Scientific Research, Moldova and Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. Further, he was the Chairman and Organizer of the symposium of “Corrosion and Coatings Challenges in Industry”, American Chemical Society, Boise, USA, June 2007 and is a Professional Member of TMS, USA. Dr. Makhlouf is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of five international journals and a Reviewer for 21 international journals.
